Japanese Satsuma Lamp

A Meiji Period Japanese Satsuma bulbous shape vase or jug with applied gilt elephant motif handles, mounted as a lamp (originally an oil lamp) on a vintage stepped brass base, the vase decorated with dropout cartouches, one of a warrior and a dragon, the other a pastoral figure collecting water, all highlighted with colorful raised brocade enamelwork. Dimensions: Base, 6 3/4" square; Height (brass cap to base) 15". Vase size 8 1/4" H x 7 1/2" dia. Circa 1860.
